Frequently asked questions
How ConvertNicely works, what happens to your files, and what to do when something goes wrong.
Yes. Every conversion is free, with no account required and no watermark on your files. Without an account you can run 50 jobs and upload 2 GB a day, which covers everyday use. We plan to add optional paid plans later for larger files and API access, but the converters you see today stay free.
Your uploaded file is deleted from our servers as soon as the conversion finishes — whether it succeeded or failed. The converted result is deleted automatically one hour later, or sooner if you press ‘Delete result now’ on the result panel. A job you never start is discarded after 30 minutes. After that we keep only a small record of the job (which tool, the file size, whether it worked) for 30 days, and never the file contents.
No. Conversion is entirely automated. No person opens your file, the contents are never logged or indexed, and we do not use your documents to train anything or share them with third parties.
No. Every tool works without an account: no email, no password, no sign-up wall. An optional free account lets you sign in on any device and reset your password if you forget it.
It depends on the tool: from 10 MB for a plain text file up to 95 MB for audio and video, which is also the site-wide ceiling for any single file. Each tool page states its own limit, and you are told before uploading if a file is too large.
It depends on the formats involved. Converting to a lossless format like PNG preserves the image exactly. Converting to a lossy format such as JPG or MP3 involves some compression, though at our default settings the difference is hard to see or hear. Each tool page is specific about what to expect.
Any modern browser on any device — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is nothing to install, and every tool is built to work well on a phone.
Not yet. The site already runs on an API, and we plan to open it to developers with keys and paid plans. If you are interested, tell us through the contact form and we will let you know when it opens.
The most common causes are a damaged file, a password-protected document, or a file whose contents do not match its extension. The error message tells you which applies. If a file consistently fails and you believe it should work, email [email protected] with the details and we will look into it.
Use the contact form, or email [email protected]. Tell us which tool you used, the kind of file you gave it and what happened instead of what you expected — that is usually enough for us to reproduce it. Ideas and format requests are just as welcome, and they genuinely shape what we build next. Security problems go to [email protected] instead, so they reach the right people quickly.
Yes, where it makes sense. The PDF builders (JPG to PDF, PNG to PDF, Images to PDF and Merge PDF) combine several files into one document. The image tools that keep the format (Compress, Resize, Crop, Watermark and Remove Metadata) take up to 20 pictures at once — one fewer if you also upload a watermark logo — and hand them back individually or as a ZIP. Most other converters process one file at a time.
