Trim an MP3
Sometimes you only want a piece of an audio file: the chorus for a ringtone, a single answer from an interview, the first minute of a podcast. Enter a start and end time and this keeps exactly that section, as a new MP3. The rest of the file is left out, and the original is untouched.

How to trim an MP3
Step 1
1. Add your MP3 file
Drag your MP3 file into the box, or choose it from your device. It can be up to 95 MB.
Step 2
2. Choose your settings
Fill in “Section to keep”. Adjust Audio quality (192 kbps), or keep the starting values in brackets, which suit most files.
Step 3
3. Press Trim audio
The work happens on our servers, and you can follow its progress. Long recordings take longer.
Step 4
4. Download your MP3 file
Your upload is already deleted, and the result is deleted after one hour.
Worth knowing
Enter the start and end as times such as 00:15-00:45, or leave off the end (01:30-) to keep everything from the start time on. The section is re-encoded to MP3 at the bitrate you choose, so pick 320 kbps to stay closest to the original. To change the format instead of trimming, use MP3 to WAV.
Why trim an MP3?
- Making a ringtone from the best part of a song
- Pulling one quote out of a long recording
- Cutting the silence or chatter off the start of a podcast
- Shortening a voice memo before sending it on
