Convert GIF to WebP
WebP is the modern replacement for almost everything a GIF was used for: far smaller files, millions of colours instead of 256, and proper transparency. This tool produces a still WebP, so an animated GIF is converted using its first frame.

Worth knowing
The WebP format can hold an animation, but this converter produces a still image: an animated GIF is converted using its first frame, and the result tells you how many frames there were. To keep the movement, use a video converter to turn the GIF into an MP4.
Why convert GIF to WebP?
- Replacing GIF graphics on a website with much smaller WebP files
- Taking a poster frame from an animation for use as a preview image
- Escaping GIF's colour ceiling for a logo or illustration
